Theatre Historian and Author

I am fascinated by the way theatre and performance provide a sense of identity. My scholarly writing has been widely  published in books, journals, and magazines. Below you will find a sampling of my published work.

While I enjoy writing about theatre and identity primarily, I am also proud to be the co-author with Edwin Wilson and Alvin Goldfarb of 3 bestselling theater textbooks:

  • Theatre: The Lively Art, an introduction to theatre textbook published by McGraw Hill

  • Theatre Experience, an abridged introduction to theatre textbook published by McGraw Hill

  • Living Theatre: History of Global Theatres, a theatre history textbook published by Norton
